Tangibility of Faith panel & exhibition

Last Thursday I attended the Tangibility of Faith exhibit and panel at the Reece Museum.

I got there just in time for the panel discussion of individual faith systems and their practice and incorporation into art. There was a Greek Orthodox minister, a Baha’i leader, a woman of the Islamic faith, and a Sikh. They each talked for about 10 minutes about how their belief systems work universally and also for them, similarities were drawn between some of them, and the panel time ended with a discussion on color and the representations of figures in faiths by color. It was super interesting and cool to see how there really is more to Appalachia than the most obvious people groups/types, and listening to the discussions helped me develop on my own philosophies and thoughts.

On Friday, I went to the Tipton exhibition to see the continuation of the work up at the Reece. The curators did a great job and there was an Iranian bluegrass musician who really brought the whole ambiance and vibe of the show together. I was super proud of the ETSU art department for making it all come together so well and it was great to hear different artists talk passionately about their work!
