The FL3TCH3R exhibit is up in the Reece Museum annually to celebrate the life of Fletcher Dyer (a senior at ETSU in 2009) and also to creatively investigate contemporary social issues. After attending Xhenet Aliu’s book reading in Tema Stauffer’s Upstate photography exhibition in the Reece Museum tonight, my fellow FPA friends and I wandered around the museum and admired the FL3TCH3R exhibit, and we were all pleasantly surprised at how cool it was and how much we loved it!
Here are some pictures of my favorite pieces:
This is the first piece that really caught my eye… It’s different and really aesthetically pleasing in a weird way. There’s a creepiness too it that is also kind of comforting… I love it.

This piece was also … eye-catching, if you will… Seeing a screen of Donald Trump in an art exhibit was definitely not something I expected or really wanted to see, but given the exhibit has a focus on social/political issues of our time, it works… It was also a cool artistic wake up call and made me realize that there’s even a valuable artistry behind video editing in a photoshop-like way to make a statement.

These two pieces (pictured above) shed light and posed the issue of gun control in America and more specifically, the American school system in light of recent events. These pieces were provocative but also very relevant and thought provoking for all people regardless of their opinion on the issue.
This was definitely one of my favorite pieces in the exhibit. Though not as straight up political as the others, it was more personal as it involved the town of Johnson City. This work was a photograph printed on eco-canvas and then machine embroidered (on the flowers, light brown dirt, and the power lines). I’d never thought about mixing these 2 medias together (though I’ve dabbled some in both) so I thought this piece was really cool and it inspired me to branch out in my personal artistic endeavors.
